To a solution of 4-bromo-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (1.1 g, 5.6 mmol) in THF was added NaH (448 mg, 11.2 mmol) at 0° C. After stirring at for 30 minutes at room temperature 0° C., SEM-Cl (1.4 g, 8.4 mmol) was added to the mixture at 0° C. The mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 16 h, at which time TLC showed the completion of the reaction. The reaction was quenched by addition of aq. NH4Cl and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate with the combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuum to give the desired product and used in the next step without further purification (1.65 g, Yield 90%). LCMS (m/z): 229.0 (M+1)
