6.0 M Potassium hydroxide in water (0.2 mL, 1 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-[2-[2-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]-5-(phenylsulfonyl)-5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazin-6-yl]pyridine-2-carbonitrile (50.0 mg, 0.0951 mmol) in THF (0.5 mL) and then the reaction was stirred at 90° C. for 5 hours. The mixture was then acidified to pH=2 by adding conc. HCl and then the solvent was removed to provide the desired crude product which was used in the next step directly. LCMS calculated for C22H21N4O4(M+H)+: m/z=405.2. Found 405.2.
