Benzyl 2-(N-(2-bromophenylmethyl)amino)acetate was dissolved in dichloromethane (0.2 M), followed by addition of trans-glutaconic acid methyl ester (1.2 eq), triethylamine (2 eq), EDAC (1.2 eq), and HOAT (0.1 eq). After stirring for 2 hrs, the solution was washed with 10% HCl, 10% sodium carbonate, water and brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Flash chromatography (50% EtOAc/Hex) afforded a viscous oil. EI-MS m/z 460, 462 (M+H)+
