Triisopropylsilylchloride (14.59 mL, 68.16 mmol) was added to a stiffed solution of 5-chloro-2-iodobenzyl alcohol (12.2 g, 45.44 mmol) and imidazole (4.64 g, 68.16 mmol) in DMF (45 mL). After 1 h the mixture was partitioned between hexanes and water. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated in vacuo to an oil which was purified by flash column chromatography on silica (eluting with 5% methylene chloride/hexanes) to give [(5-chloro-2-iodobenzyl)oxy](triisopropyl)silane as an oil (1611 g): 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz) δ 1.11 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 18H), 1.20 (septet, J=6.8 Hz, 3H), 4.65 (s, 2H), 6.96 (dd, J=2.6, 8.4 Hz, 1H), 7.56 (d, J=2.8 Hz, 1H), 7.66 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 1H).
