Diisopropyl azodicarboxylate (DIAD) (14 mg, 0.069 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-amino-4-hydroxymethyl-6-methyl-thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid amide (15 mg, 0.063 mmol), phenol (6 mg, 0.069 mmol), and Ph3P (18 mg, 0.069 mmol) in THF (1.5 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 24 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated and fractionated by preparative TLC (10% MeOH/CH2Cl2) providing the title compound (12 mg, 61%) as an orange solid, m.p. 194-196° C.
