Procedure
To a suspension of 1.88 g of 3-amino-2-naphthalic acid in 25 mL of 2-propanol was added 1.39 mL of triethylamine followed by 1.02 g of n-propyl isothiocyanate with stirring. The mixture was heated at reflux for 2 h, and then allowed to cool to room temperature. The resulting solid was collected by filtration and washed with cold 2-propanol to give 1.97 g of the title compound of Step A as a yellow solid.
