Procedure
To a solution of ethyl[(2-mercapto-4,5-dihydronaphtho[1,2-d]thiazol-6-yl)oxy]acetate (4.00 g, 12.4 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 mL) were serially added bromodiphenylmethane (3.38 g, 13.7 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.90 g, 13.7 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 2 hours. This reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to provide 4.50 g of the title compound Yield 74%.
