Potassium carbonate (15 mmol) is added to a solution of 7-nitro-2,3-dihydro-1H-Benz[de]isoquinoline-6-sulfonic acid amide (3 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (30 mL). The resulting solution is stirred at 100° C. for 12 hours then partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer is dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated to afford the title compound. The crude product can be purified by recrystallization or chromatography.
