An equimolar mixture of 16-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (16 HETE) and N-hydroxysuccinimide in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (THF) was cooled to 0° C. To this was added 1 equivalent of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) with stirring. After 12 h at room temperature, the solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was purified by SiO2 chromatography to afford the corresponding 16-HETE N-hydroxysuccimide ester in 75% yield as a colorless oil.
