Procedure

2-Nitro-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepin-11-one (0.82 g) was dissolved in warm acetic acid (100 ml) and the resulting solution hydrogenated over Adam's catalyst (80 mg) for 3 hours at atmospheric pressure. The catalyst was filtered off and the solution evaporated to dryness. Recrystallisation of the residue from methanol gave the product as a greenish powder (0.48 g, m/s. M- =242).
