0.89 g of 1-L-thioprolylpyrrolidine hydrochloride was suspended in 20 ml of methylene chloride. To the suspension were added 0.40 g of triethylamine and 0.76 g of 3-(indan-2-yl)propionic acid under ice-cooling with stirring. After 10 minutes, 0.92 g of WSC.HCl was added to the mixture under ice-cooling while stirring. The mixture was sirred for 16 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was washed with diluted hydrochloric acid, water, and saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate in this order. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue thus obtained was recrystallized from ethyl acetate/isopropyl ether to produce 1.02 g of 1-{3-[3-(indan-2-yl)proprionyl]-L-thioprolyl]pyrrolidine as colorless crystals (yield: 71%).
