Procedure
A solution of acetophenone (100 ml), o-carbethoxyaniline (90 ml), benzene (100 ml) was refluxed in the presence of molecular sieve (40 g) with continuous removal of water. N-(α-methyl benzylidene)-o-carbethoxyaniline (XV) was obtained by fractional distillation. XV had a boiling point of 123° at 0.1 millimeter.
