Procedure
Trifluoroacetic anhydride (3.78 g) and triethylamine (1.82 g) were added to a solution of 1-oxo-9-phenyl-7-propyl-3,4-dihydro-2H,6H-pyrimido[6,1-b][1,3]thiazine-6,8(7H)-dione (4 g) in methylene chloride (60 ml) and the mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 60 hours. The reaction solution was evaporated to dryness, and the residue was dissolved in methylene chloride-H2O. Then, the organic layer was washed with a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. After drying, the organic solution was concentrated, and the resulting residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel. The resulting crude crystals were recrystalized from methylene chloride-isopropyl ether to give colorless needles (3.1 g, 78%).
