A process according to claim 1 wherein stoichiometric molar quantities of tosyl chloride or p-toluene sulphonyl chloride and either the diethylamine salt or the ammonium salt of 2,5-dihydroxybenzene sulphonic acid is used to obtain the ammonium salt of 2,5-dihydroxybenzenesulphonic acid monotosylate.
