To a suspension of sodium hydride (60%, 2.26 g, 56 mmol) was added a solution of 1-benzyl-1H-indol-3-ylacetonitrile in DMSO-ether (10 MI: 80 mL) dropwise and the mixture was stirred for 5 hours at 20° C. Water and hexane were added. Solid was collected by filtration and washed with water and hexane to give 1-(1-benzyl-1H-indol-3-yl)cyclopentanecarbonitrile (5.3 g). MS (ES): 301 (MH+).
