mCPBA (4.203 g, 17.04 mmol) was added to a solution of naphthalen-2-ylmethyl 2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-1-carboxylate (2.15 g, 8.52 mmol) in chloroform (35 mL), and the reaction was stirred for 4 days. The reaction mixture was diluted with saturated NaHCO3 and chloroform, and the organic layer was washed with CHCl3, dried over sodium sulfate and condensed. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography, eluting with a gradient from 1% EtOAc/DCM to 15% EtOAc/DCM, to provide the desired product as a solid (1.0 g).
