2.9 g (6.32 mmole) quantity of 1-(N-t-butoxycarbonylphenylglycyl)-4-decylpiperazine was dissolved in 5 ml of ethyl acetate, and 20 ml of 4N hydrochloric acid-ethyl acetate solution was added thereto with ice-cooling and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, washed with a small quantity of ether and dried under reduced pressure, giving 2.5 g (yield: 90 %) of 1-(2-amino-2-phenylacetyl)-4-decylpiperazine as a hydrochloride.
