Procedure
A solution of 13.8 g (0.1 mole) of salicylic acid in 48.3 g (0.6 mole) of 2-chloro-ethanol in the presence of 4 ml of sulfuric acid is heated to 110° for 2 hours. After removing the excess of 2-chloro-ethanol, the ether solution of the product is extracted with an aqueous solution of 5% CO3HNa. The ether is removed and the product is distilled. B.p.: 128°-129°/11 Torr.
