A mixture of 20 parts of ethyl 4-(2-thienylcarbonyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate and 120 parts of hydrobromic acid solution 48% in water is stirred and refluxed for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled and the precipitated product is filtered off. It is washed with 2-propanol and dried, yielding 17 parts (85%) of (4-piperidinyl) (2-thienyl)methanone hydrobromide.
