Dissolved in a 5% aqueous potassium carbonate solution was 2.1 g of L-valine, and a tetrahydrofuran solution containing 3.2 g of (2-chloroethyl)-nitrosocarbamoyl azide was added at 0° C. The mixture was stirred for two hours. The reaction solution was washed with ether, neutralized with hydrochloric acid, and extracted with ether to obtain 2.9 g (Yield 64%) of N-{(2-chloroethyl)-nitrosocarbamoyl}-L-valine as a slightly yellow oil.
