Procedure
A mixture of 3.5 g of 8-hydroxy-9-(4-pentylphenoxy)-5-nonynoic acid, 0.3 g of Lindlar's catalyst, 2.5 ml of Et3N and 80 ml of THF was hydrogenated under 1 atm of hydrogen until the uptake hydrogen ceased. The solvent and catalyst were removed. The crude product was recrystallized in toluene to yield the title compound, mp 105.0°-105.5°. CI-MS (high resolution) (M+1=337.2298).
