Procedure
A solution of L-iso-leucine methyl ester hydrochloride (2.5 g, 13.75 mmol) in dichloromethane (35 mL) at 0° C. was treated with 4-nitrophenyl chloroformate (3.05, 15.13 mmol) and 4-methylmorpholine (3.2 mL, 29.11 mmol), stirred at 25° C. for 64 hours, and partitioned between dichloromethane and saturated NaHCO3. The organic phase was washed with brine and dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to give the title compound (4.19 g, 98% yield).
