Procedure

To a solution of 2-(3-methoxy-4-(4-methylthiophen-3-yl)phenyl)-2-methylpropanoic acid (example 35b) (630 mg, 2.2 mmol) in DMF (7 mL) were added HOBt (297 mg, 2.2 mmol), EDC (434 mg, 2.2 mmol) and isobutyl amine (214 μL, 2.2 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in EtOAc and successively washed with water, 10% citric acid, sat. NaHCO3 and water, dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel (30% EtOAc-hexanes) to give 190 mg (37%) of N-isobutyl-2-(3-methoxy-4-(4-methylthiophen-3-yl)phenyl)-2-methylpropanamide. 1H NMR (400 MHz, dMSO): δ 0.73-0.75 (d, 6H), 1.48 (s, 6H), 1.69-1.72 (m, 1H), 2.00 (s, 3H), 2.49-2.50 (m, 2H), 3.71 (s, 3H), 6.91-6.94 (m, 2H), 7.08-7.10 (d, 1H), 7.18 (s, 1H), 7.24-7.25 (d, 1H), 7.34-7.35 (t, 1H).
