Procedure
To a solution of 3,4-Dihydro-6-hydroxy-4-oxo-spiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,1′-cyclobutane] (Example 12) (10 mmol) in dimethylformamide, iodomethane (12 mmol) and potassium carbonate (12 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 12 h. Solvent was then evaporated and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate. Organic layer was washed with water, brine and separated. It was then dried on anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated to afford the desired product as oil.
