A solution of 0.099 g of tert-butyl 3-{2-[2-(2-acetylaminoethyl)phenoxy]ethoxy}-4-{4-[3-(2-methoxybenzyloxy)propoxy]phenyl}piperidine-1-carboxylate (Example 14a) in 3 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide is admixed with stirring at room temperature with 0.023 g of sodium hydride dispersion (55%). After 30 minutes at room temperature, a solution of 0.055 ml of methyl iodide in 0.4 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide is added dropwise. The reaction mixture is stirred at 75° C. over 18 hours, cooled, poured onto water and extracted with tert-butyl methyl ether (2×). The combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulphate and concentrated by evaporation. The title compound is obtained as a yellow oil from the residue by means of flash chromatography (SiO2 60F). Rf=0.09 (1.5:1 EtOAc-heptane); Rt=5.84.
