Procedure

A solution of N-methyl-N-phenyl carbamoyl chloride (170 mg, 1.00 mmol), 6′-hydroxy-4,5-dihydro-3H-[1,3]bipyridinyl-2,6-dione (206 mg, 1.00 mmol) and 1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octane (112 mg, 1.00 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was purified by flash column chromatography (SiO2, first ethyl acetate:heptane 75:25 followed by pure ethyl acetate). Evaporation of the solvent yielded the title compound (260 mg, 77% yield) as a white solid.
