3,3-(ethylenedioxy)-4,4-dimethyl-6α-hydroxymethyl-17β-tert-butyl-dimethylsilyloxyandrostan-7-one (100 mg) was dissolved in dioxane (2 ml) then 1N HCl (2 ml) was added and the mixture stirred at RT for 5.5 h. 5% NaHCO3 was added and the solvent evaporated to dryness. The water phase was extracted with DCM, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to dryness to give 4,4-dimethyl-6α-hydroxymethyl-17β-hydroxyandrostan-3,7-dione in 95% yield.
