Intermediate (16c) (7.8 g, 16.6 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (420 mL, 7.2 mol). Pearlman's Catalyst, wet (0.1:0.4:0.5, palladium hydroxide:carbon black:water, 6 g, 4 mmol) was added. The mixture was degassed and stirred under hydrogen for 2 hours. The palladium was filtered off and the solvent was concentrated to yield intermediate (16d) (7.7 g). MS m/z: [M+H+] calcd for C26H30FN3O4, 468.2; found 468.4.
