To a solution of (Z)—N-(2-methyl-5-nitrophenyl)thieno[2,3-b]pyrazine-6-carbimidoyl chloride 76 (100 mg, 0.301 mmol) in THF (15 mL), water (0.5 mL) and acetonitrile (15 mL) was added potassium cyanide (98 mg, 1.503 mmol). The reaction was stirred at rt for 6 h. Quenched in NaHCO3 solution and resulting precipitate was collected to give crude (E)-N-(2-methyl-5-nitrophenyl)thieno[2,3-b]pyrazine-6-carbimidoyl cyanide 77 (62 mg, 63.8%) which was used without further purification. (m/z)=324 (M+H)+.
