Procedure

A mixture of ethyl 5-{[6-(methoxymethyl)pyridin-3-yl]oxy}-7-(1-methylethoxy)-1H-indole-2-carboxylate (1.65 g), 1M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 mL), tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) and ethanol (10 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 15 h. Water and 1M hydrochloric acid (10 mL) were added to the mixture and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (1.43 g, 93%) as a brown amorphous solid. MS 357 (MH+).
