Procedure
To a solution of compound 8-phenoxy-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]decane (2.0 g, 8.55 mmol) in THF (12 mL), 3N HCl (aqueous, 12 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 3 h. Excess THF was removed in rotary evaporator and the crude reaction mixture was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography using ethyl acetate and hexane (1:4) to obtain 4-phenoxy-cyclohexanone (900 mg, 56%) as a white solid.
