A solution of 2 (1.67 g, 6.7 mmol) with 10% (w/v) NaOH (4 mL) in MeOH (20 mL) was stirred overnight at room temperature. The solution was acidified by 2 M HCl in an ice bath to pH<1 and extracted with CHCl3 (3×10 mL). The extracts were dried with Na2SO4, and the mixture was filtered. Solvent was evaporated to give 3 as a white solid (1.35 g, yield=85%)
