Procedure
5 ml of conc. HCl are added dropwise to a solution of 0.31 g of 8-[2-(1,1-dimethoxyethyl)thiazol-5-yl]-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo[1,5-a]pyridin-8-ol and 20 ml of 1:1 acetone/water at room temperature, and the mixture is stirred for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is evaporated—the residue is mixed with saturated aqueous sodium carbonate solution and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×). The combined organic phases are dried with sodium sulphate and evaporated. The title compound is identified from the residue by flash chromatography (SiO2 60F) on the basis of the Rf.
