Procedure
A solution of 4-(7-Methyl-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.2 g, 3.64 mmol), PtO2 (42 mg, 0.18 mmol) in MeOH (40 mL) and TFA (2 mL) was stirred under H2 (1 atm) at room temperature for 4 hours. The catalyst was filtered and the solvent was removed. The residue was subject to column chromatography, eluted by DCM/MeOH (20:1) to give 4-(7-Methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester as TFA salt (0.43 g, 27%). 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz) δ 9.75 (s, 1H), 7.97 (s, 1H), 3.60 (m, 10H), 2.60 (m, 2H), 2.00 (m, 1H), 1.48 (s, 9H), 1.35 (d, J=6.4 Hz, 3H). MS (APCI+) [M+H]+334.
