To a solution of benzyl 3-amino-3-(2-ethoxy-2-oxoethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (260 mg, 0.85 mmol) and p-decylbenzoic acid (267 mg, 1.03 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (10 mL) was added EDC (195 mg, 1.02 mmol) and triethylamine (0.35 mL, 2.55 mmol). The reaction was stirred overnight at room temperature. Methylene chloride (100 mL) was added and the solution was washed with sat. sodium bicarbonate (2×10 mL), H2O (10 mL) dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (9:1 CH2Cl2/EtOAc) to give the title compound as a yellow solid (127 mg, 26%) 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.64 (d, 2H, J=7.8 Hz), 7.41-7.28 (m, 5H), 7.23 (d, 2H, J=7.5 Hz), 6.40 (s, 1H), 5.21-5.10 (m, 2H), 4.10 (q, 2H, J=7.1 Hz), 4.02 (d, 1H, J=11.9 Hz), 3.64 (d, 1H, J=12.4 Hz), 3.60-3.53 (m, 2H), 3.35-2.86 (m, 2H), 2.64 (t, 2H, J=7.6 Hz), 2.14-2.02 (m, 1H), 1.67-1.56 (m, 4H), 1.36-1.24 (m, 14H), 1.21 (t, 3H, J=7.1 Hz), 0.89 (t, 3H, J=6.6 Hz).
