7,7-Dimethyl-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-8-amine (1.3 g, 7.027 mmol, 1 eq) was dissolved in triethylamine (3.89 ml, 28.10 mmol, 4 eq) and dichloromethane (25 ml) and added dropwise at 0° C. to a 50% solution of Cbz-Cl (2.56 ml, 8.432 mmol, 1.2 eq) in toluene, and the mixture was then stirred for 2 h at RT. After monitoring by thin-layer chromatography, the reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane (100 ml), washed with water (75 ml), sat. NH4Cl solution (75 ml) and sat. NaCl solution (75 ml), dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. After purification by column chromatography (silica gel, 15% ethyl acetate in hexane), the desired product was obtained in the form of a colourless, viscous oil. Yield: 34% (960 mg, 3.0 mmol).
