To an ice-cooled solution of product obtained in Step 4 of Example 8 (5.3 g) in dimethylformamide (18 ml) was added (2-aminothiazol-4-yl)glyoxylic acid (2.03 g), and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The resulting solution was poured into ice water (100 ml), and the mixture was acidified (pH 2) with 1N hydrochloric acid and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The dried solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was crystallized with ether, giving 6.30 g of the objective compound.
