Procedure

7-2 (0.23 g, 1.79 mmol), DIEA (0.69 g, 5.37 mmol) and 1-(1,1-dioxidotetrahydrothien-3-yl)piperazinediium dichloride (the bis HCl salt of 39-1) (0.49 g, 1.79 mmol) were stirred at 150° C. in n-butanol for 18 hours overnight. Upon cooling, the solid was filtered off and washed with n-butanol and ethyl ether to afford 39-2. Hi-Res MS: calc: 298.1132 found: 298.1357. 1H-NMR (CD3OD): 7.97(s, 1H); 5.72(s, 1H); 3.55(t, 4H); 3.27(complex, 2H); 3.07(complex, 2H); 2.77(complex, 1H); 2.67(m, 2H); 2.59(m, 2H); 2.47(m, 1H); 2.12(m, 1H).
