A solution of 2-(cyclohexylmethyl)hexanoic acid (1.4 g) in 50 ml of dry tetrahydrofuran at 0° C. under nitrogen was treated with stirring with 10 ml of 1 molar borane-tetrahydrofuran complex. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes, allowed to come to room temperature, and poured into ethyl acetate. After careful addition of water, the organic layer was separated, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give 1.4 g of 2-(cyclohexylmethyl)hexan-1-ol.
