A mixture of 4,5-dimethyl-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride (10 g; 0.0555 mol), platinum dioxide (150 mg) and tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) was hydrogenated at room temperature for 8 hours, followed by removal of insoluble materials by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the objective compound quantitatively. IR νmaxfilm (cm-1): 1860, 1760.
