To the solution of ethyl 2-(1-allylhydrazinyl)acetate (Compound XV-1) 6.9 g (44 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran 40 ml, benzyl isocyanate 6.1 g (46 mmol) was added at 0° C. and at room temperature for 3.5 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate 150 ml and washed with water 75 ml and brine 75 ml. The organic phase was dried with magnesium sulfate and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to obtain the title compound 9.43 g (75%).
