A solution of 4-[3-(4-chloro-phenoxy)-benzyl]-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (29.6 g, 73.5 mmol) in 4:1 dioxane:H2O (100 mL) was treated with 4 M HCl in dioxane (60 mL). After 3 h, THF (200 mL) was added and the resulting white precipitate was filtered and dried under vacuum to give 1-[3-(4-chloro-phenoxy)-benzyl]-piperazine hydrochloride (26.4 g, 95%). MS (ESI+): calcd for C17H19ClN2O m/z 302.12. found 303.1 (M+H)+.
