To a stirred solution of (R)-4-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-6-(4-heptyloxy-phenyl)-4-methyl-hexanoic acid (24 mg, 0.06 mMol) in CH2Cl2 (2 ml) is added trifluoroacetic acid (0.1 ml). The mixture is stirred at RT for 6.5 hours. After that time, the reaction mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as an amorphous white powder. The crude product is sufficiently pure to be used without further purification.
