2-Iodo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenol (10 g, 33 mmol), 2-chloroethyl-p-toluenesulfonate (7.9 g, 34 mmol), N,N′-dimethylformamide (50 mL) and potassium carbonate (9.1 g, 66 mmol) were stirred together at 50° C. for 16 hours and then cooled. The suspension was diluted with water (100 mL) and extracted with 60% diethyl ether/hexane (2×100 mL). The extracts were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give the title compound as a solid (12.1 g, 33 mmol).
