Procedure

To a solution of {4-[3-(4-acetylamino-phenyl)-thioureido]-2,6-dichloro-phenoxy}-acetic acid ethyl ester (0.29 g) in a 1:1 mixture of tetrahydrofuran and methanol (4 mL) is added 1 N aqueous sodium hydroxide (2 mL) and the mixture is stirred for approximately 2 hours at room temperature. The solution is then poured into 2 M aqueous hydrochloric acid (5 mL), extracted into ethyl acetate, and the extracts are dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent is removed by evaporation under reduced pressure and the residue is triturated with diethyl ether to provide the desired product as a white solid.
