To a solution of 0.667 g of benzenesulfonic acid amide in 5 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide were added 0.127 g of 60% sodium hydride at room temperature, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour. Further, 0.648 g of 1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-6-chloromethyl-2-methylbenzimidazole hydrochloride were added thereto, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. Water was added to the reaction solution to stop the reaction, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was extracted with ethyl acetate and with water. The organic layer was concentrated, and was purified through silica-gel column chromatography (eluent: ethyl acetate) to give 0.240 g of 6-benzenesulfonylaminomethyl-1-(2-chlorobenzyl)-2-methylbenzimidazole (264).
