Procedure
The product of Example 17 is dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid and the solution is stored at room temperature for one hour. The mixture is then concentrated to dryness in vacuo, and the residue is acylated with t-butyloxycarbonyl azide by the procedure described in Example 13 to obtain 3-carboxy-1-[(t-butyloxy)carbonyl]-2-pyrrolidineheptanoic acid phenylmethyl ester.
