Procedure
A mixture of 2-thienyl-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)ketone (M.p. 112° C.; 65 g), ethyl bromoisobutyrate (62 g) and potassium carbonate (88 g) in 2-butanone (500 ml) is refluxed for 24 hours. After removing the solid by filtration in the hot, the solvent is removed. The unreacted phenol is extracted from the residue with an alkaline aqueous solution. The usual treatments give, in a yield of 50%, the ester which melts at 45° C.
