Procedure
Upon boiling a solution of 7.6 g of 3-nitrobenzaldehyde and 14.5 g of 3-amino-3-ethoxyacrylic acid methyl ester in 40 ml of alcohol for 6 hours, 2-amino-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-6-ethoxy-4,5-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester of melting point 163° C (isopropanol) is obtained. Yield: 71% of theory.
