5.9 g (25 mmol) of methyl 3-azido-3-phenyl-2-hydroxybutyrate (Ex. 1) are dissolved in 80 ml of DMF, treated with 1.7 g (12.5 mmol) of potassium carbonate and 5.5 g (25 mmol) of 4,6-dimethoxy-2-methylsulfonylpyrimidine, and stirred for 6 hours at 50° C. and 12 hours at room temperature. The mixture is then poured onto 400 ml of water, and the precipitate formed is filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried. 6.3 g of a white powder are obtained.
